Urban Sensation, Kingston Upon Hull

The historic port of Kingston upon Hull is a city on the up; a city on a mission; a city on the verge of being transformed into one of the country’s most desirable places to live, work and visit…
"Development and investment in the city is growing at a remarkable pace which is fantastic news for architects", says Ken Norman, MD of Beverley-based Building Design Architects (BDA). "Hull has a monumental history and fantastic natural features which provide an amazing palette of design inspirations. Hull is about to be re-invented and that’s very exciting for us – we’re delighted to be a part of it."
The council aims to have 4,500 new people living in 3,000 new homes in the city centre within the next 15 years, supported by a vastly enhanced infrastructure and additional amenities. A £240 million residential development programme will enable this to happen.
"Specifically, BDA’s part in the regeneration of this vibrant city, has taken many paths, but most recently, we are delighted to be the architects behind Urban Sensation, a unique city environment."

On the former site of the Needler’s sweet factory, along Sculcoates Lane, Urban Sensation is a ‘breath of fresh air’ for this neglected and often derelict industrial area.
As BDA Design Director, Andy Sangwin points out:
“Viable ideas were needed to convert this deterioration into something new, positive and inspiring. Plans for Urban Sensation provided the perfect solution.”

- an exceptional range of building materials
- fitted kitchens and bathrooms
- built-in safety and security measures
- cedar cladding
- oak veneers
- chrome door furniture
Recently shortlisted for a ‘design excellence’ award in a major regional business competition, BDA is rightfully proud of the designs behind Urban Sensation.
"The idea behind creating an urban village from scratch is very exciting for us", concluded Ken Norman. "Urban Sensation will set the benchmark for developments in the region and is a truly exceptional concept. There has been tremendous interest in the homes and we have no doubt that it will be a great success in drawing people back into Hull. Schemes like this are the way forward for Hull and we are very proud to be involved."
