Britcom - Market Weighton, East Yorkshire

Relocating the UK’s biggest truck exporter is no small task and that is why architectural designs for its brand new operational HQ had to be absolutely spot on...
We were approached by Britcom International Limited with a complex brief that would not only see this marketleading business benefit from a multi-functional, highly prestigious new site, but also include the redevelopment of its old land to create a desirable residential community.
- £4 million relocation to new site
- Multi-million pound 60-home development on old site
"We find many of our clients prefer our hands-on service throughout the life of the contract”, commented BDA Design Director, Andy Sangwin. "They receive great peace of mind and we benefit from a more involved approach that allows us to assist with any troubleshooting - not to mention being able to see our plans come to full fruition in the way we visualised.”

“Working with a responsive contractor is key to the whole process and with this project, PDR Construction Ltd were very open to ideas and as keen as we were to create a showpiece location for Britcom.”
In essence, the brief required BDA to provide an impressive, customised scheme befitting the nature and status of the client. It had to encompass purpose-built workshops for the service & engineering departments, an up-to-the-minute shotblasting and paintshop facility, a new office block to house sales and administration teams, a greatly expanded yard to provide much-needed show space and additional storage facilities. Furthermore, it had to be achieved using a strict budget, an 11-acre site and a very tight deadline.
BDA, as ever, rose to the challenge and provided designs that well and truly exceeded expectations with great use of space, imaginative use of materials and the creation of truly ground-breaking features such as an environmentally-friendly water system.
- Excellent use of space
- Imaginative use of materials
- Innovative and ecological water system
We always like to be as innovative as possible when it comes to design and if we can integrate this with good economy and environmental measures, then everyone’s a winner”, continued Andy. “The water system was a particular coup for us and one that we are delighted to say has received the full approval of the Environment Agency. This pioneering system will store and filter rainwater on the new site, ready to be used by the vehicle cleaning systems.”
The redevelopment of Britcom’s old site is also under way. Once complete, this well-located residential scheme will provide 60 new homes for the area. Persimmon Homes will develop the site using BDA’s designs for a good mix of luxury two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments.
Unusually, almost 50% of the properties will be detached - and even more uncommon is the fact that some of these properties will be built on two and a half storeys, adding extra living space, an interesting design and an out-of-the-ordinary property option for buyers.
